What is the structure of MAQ program?

The MAQ program covers eight areas of digital competence tailored to Moodle administration:

  1. Implementation: installation, security, and policy settings.
  2. Maintenance and support: regular upgrades, performance optimisation, and user support.
  3. Site structure: organising courses and categories effectively.
  4. User management: authentication, roles, and permissions.
  5. Site appearance and functionality: branding, accessibility, and mobile-friendly design.
  6. Monitoring: analytics, reports, and event monitoring.
  7. Plugins and extensions: managing integrations and plugins.
  8. Professional practice: engaging with the Moodle community and reflective practice.

Each of the eight courses includes formative and summative assessments, culminating in a digital badge that can be shared across professional networking platforms to showcase your expertise. Completing all eight courses grants you the Moodle Administrator Qualification (MAQ) certificate.

Moodle Administrator Qualification FAQ

MAQ written assignments are assessed with a straightforward rubric, visible to the candidate, where each response is graded as not complete, partially or fully complete.

If candidates do not reach the 80% on the ‘Knowledge quiz’ that assess capabilities, they will not be awarded the course badge and consequently, they will not be eligible for the Moodle Administrator Qualification certificate, even if they successfully complete the summative Assignment.

If a candidate does not reach the 80% in the assignment, they may update their submission twice, following the feedback from their facilitator. If they do not reach 80% after this, they fail in that particular course, and consequently they will not be eligible for the Moodle Administrator Qualification certificate.

If they fail one MAQ course they will not be eligible for the Moodle Administrator Qualification certificate. Candidates will be paused from the MAQ program and they will be redirected to continue with some training. Candidates will be able to return to the MAQ at a later time, three to six months later, once they have gained some experience. If they want to receive the certificate, they will be allowed to continue from where they left, providing they return to MAQ within two years after their first login. Depending on the specific process of their Moodle Certified Partner or Service Provider,

the candidate may need to pay a fee. In any case candidates will need to complete MAQ within two years from their first login to the Qualifications site.

The exact time needed for the MAQ depends on your experience and Moodle expertise, but it is estimated that each course needs about 10 hours to complete, except the Professional Practice one that is estimated at five hours.

No. When candidates complete their work, it is the Moodle Education Team that reviews and confirms that their work is ready to be qualified. Thus the 250 euros certificate fee.

MAQ is aimed at professionals who want to prove their administrative digital skills and a high level of professionalism is expected. Moodle Certified Partners and Service Providers will not tolerate such unethical behaviour. If a candidate self-plagiarises, i.e. repeating excerpts from their own assignments, their submission will be rejected and they will be asked to re-submit from scratch.

If a candidate plagiarises quoting from the Internet or other resources, to an extent that violates the copyright, even if they name their resources, their submission will be rejected and they will be asked to re-submit from scratch.

If a candidate plagiarises from a peer, both candidates will be affected:

  • Both candidates will have to complete a journal with selected digital competences that will be defined by Moodle Education Team and will be submitted for review to their MAQ Facilitator and the Moodle Education Team;
  • The candidate who committed plagiarism will have to resubmit all assignments from scratch.

If a candidate submits a raw AI generated assignment, their submission will be rejected and they will be asked to re-submit from scratch.

If candidates refuse to follow the above guidelines, they will be banned from the MAQ for a year.

Yes. MAQ follows Moodle development and progress and it is essential that it stays in alignment with new features and functionality. Holders of the MAQ will be able to renew their qualification every two years by taking a short course that will ensure their skills are up-to-date.
